Surrounded by towering forests and just 20 minutes from Manjimup along Muir Highway, Nyamup offers the perfect escape for couples or small families looking to unwind in nature. Enjoy the peaceful forest setting, explore the nearby river, and discover the charm of this historic mill town. Nyamup is also an easy drive to Pemberton and the wider Southern Forests region, known for its exceptional local wine, fresh produce, and outdoor adventures.
The Cottage
Cottage 8 is a three-bedroom original 1939 timber Mill Worker’s cottage in the old Bunnings Company Timber Mill settlement, hidden in the Southern Forests.
The two larger bedrooms are appointed with Queen size beds and the third room is equipped with bunk beds. The beautiful polished jarrah wooden floors are a bit quirky and slopey in places. The lounge has a comfortable 6 seater sofa and a slow combustion burner for use on the cold winter nights.
The kitchen is well equipped with crockery, cutlery and utensils. The dining table seats 8.
All bedrooms have pedestal fans for the occasional hot days, however the cottage does not have air-conditioning.
The bathroom is basic but clean and functional.
This old Mill Town is the perfect place to disconnect from the outside world and unplug from daily life. There is no Wi-Fi (and only limited reception for providers other than Telstra).
We stock a basic pantry of salt, pepper, sugar, olive oil, and other essentials.
Outside the cabin there is a West-facing front porch to view the sunset over the treetops, and an expansive East-facing deck, to watch the evening migration of kangaroos through the village. This area is equipped with an 8 seater outdoor setting and gas BBQ.
Guest access
Cottage 8 is one of 20 remaining timber cottages within the original Mill Town settlement. At Peak holiday periods the village may be nearly full of guests or owners, and at other times you may not see anyone at all during your stay.
The village caretaker is always available in an emergency and lives on-site across the village.
Manjimup is the closest town and fuel supply, and we suggest stocking up here or along your journey from Perth ahead of your stay.
Other things to note
Because the cabin is in largely original condition, it has some quirks that mean it may not be suitable for all guests. The cottages use stored rainwater which has basic filtration so we suggest that bottled water is used for drinking water.
Before booking, please be aware of the following:
– The remote location.
The closest major town is Manjimup, approx. 20 mins away. Stock up with supplies there before you arrive. Don’t forget your drinking water.
– Steps.
There are steps to both the front and rear entry of the house.
– No WiFi.
Unplug. Breathe. Connect. There is however a TV and assorted DVDs for rainy days.
– Children and infants.
We welcome young families, but aren’t able to offer any amenities, so if you are booking Cottage 8 please note you will need to provide a travel cot/highchair and anything else the smaller guests may need. Please be mindful of the slow combustion heater in the lounge and natural, unsecured river access when considering a booking.
– Wildlife.
Our forest location means that there is always abundant wildlife of all types. At different times of the year there may be insects or even the occasional mouse or possum seeking shelter. Encountering snakes or lizards in the forest is rare but possible.
