The Forest Rally is set to rev up once again, bringing high-octane action to the region.
There are plenty of opportunities for spectators to enjoy the excitement both out in the forests and at the Service Park, where rally crews can be seen working at pace to maintain and prepare their cars between stages.
Rallying differs from other forms of motorsport in that cars don’t compete on a traditional circuit. Instead, they race against the clock on closed forest roads. Crews drive each stage only a limited number of times to create detailed pace notes — a shorthand system used by the Co-Driver to guide the Driver through every corner, crest and challenge ahead. With changing gravel conditions on each run, no two passes are ever the same, making rallying one of the most demanding and skilful forms of motorsport.
A wide variety of vehicles take part, ranging from classic favourites like Ford Escorts and Datsun 1600s through to modern turbocharged machines such as Mitsubishi Evos and Subaru WRXs, along with high-performance international-spec R5 cars.
