Banksia Camp is a great choice for a family holiday, with camping and fishing and spectacular coastal views across to Chatham Island.

D‘Entrecasteaux National Park boasts some of the best coastline in the world and the beach at Banksia Camp is no exception. Its pristine waters and bright white sand are impressive. Fishing off the rocks at Banksia Camp can be very rewarding but remember that rock fishing can be dangerous. The track to the camp takes you through coastal heathland, which comes alive with colour in the wildflower season.

The current Banksia Hut replaced the old hut that was erected back in 1965. Banksia Hut is a roomy shelter containing four bedrooms and a common area that is designed to accommodate 12 people comfortably. The hut cannot be pre-booked or reserved so visitors are advised to carry a tent in case it is occupied on arrival. Rainwater is provided at the hut for all visitors to Banksia Camp. Please use this resource sparingly as it is limited. The purity of water cannot be guaranteed; therefore, it should be treated before drinking. Be aware that this facility is provided for all visitors so please limit your stay to three nights to allow other people to enjoy this experience.

Camping fees apply.

Campfires are usually permitted, in the provided fire rings only, between April 15 and November 30 but fire restrictions may be imposed at any time and without notice. Bring your own firewood. When fire restrictions are in place, campfires must not be lit and any appliance powered by burning solid fuel must not be used. Always comply with any instructions at campgrounds and parks.

Campers´ own liquid or gas fuel barbeques, stoves and heaters can be used at any time, unless a total fire ban has been declared (see Department of Fire and Emergency Services).
Noise Please respect other hut users by keeping noise levels down
after 10pm.

Fish cleaning Do not clean fish in or near the hut.

Generators are permitted from 8am to 1pm and 5pm to 9pm if they
are not overly noisy. Ensure generators are placed in a site that will
not catch fire and set the surrounding vegetation alight.

Others’ rights Respect the needs and rights of other hut users –
share it and enjoy it!
