Located within the remote southern forest and coastal landscapes of the Southern Forests & Valleys region, Steve’s Road Stopover is a self-reliant stopover along the Warren Blackwood Stock Route, providing riders with a quiet place to rest before continuing toward Broke Inlet and the coastal end of the trail.
Surrounded by native bushland and wilderness landscapes, Steve’s Road Stopover offers riders the opportunity to experience the isolation, natural beauty, and rugged character of the historic stock route as it winds through some of the South West’s most untouched environments.
As a self-reliant stopover, this site is designed for experienced trail users who are fully prepared to carry their own camping equipment, food, water, horse feed, and emergency supplies while travelling through this remote section of the route.
Facilities
Steve’s Road Stopover is a basic self-reliant stopover and includes:
- Informal rest area for riders and horses
- Space for temporary camping
- Trail marker signage
Please note:
- No toilets are provided
- No formal shelters are available
- No guaranteed water supply is available
- Riders must carry all required supplies and remove all rubbish from the site
Trail users are encouraged to follow Leave No Trace principles and help preserve the surrounding natural environment for future visitors.

Steve’s Road Stopover provides riders with an important rest point before completing the final coastal section of the Warren Blackwood Stock Route.
Phone Signal & Safety
Mobile phone coverage within this section of the trail is limited and may be unreliable depending on location and service provider. Riders should not rely solely on mobile reception while travelling this remote section of the route.
Before travelling, riders are strongly encouraged to:
- Carry maps and navigation tools
- Inform someone of their travel plans and expected arrival times
- Carry emergency and first aid equipment
- Carry sufficient food and water supplies for both rider and horse
- Carry a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) where possible
- Ensure horses are adequately prepared for remote long-distance trail conditions
Water, Fire & Emergency Information
No guaranteed water supply is available at Steve’s Road Stopover. Riders must carry sufficient water supplies for themselves and their horses, particularly during warmer months and dry conditions.
Campfires are only permitted in accordance with current fire restrictions and Total Fire Ban requirements. Riders should check local fire conditions before travelling and never leave fires unattended.

- Activate your PLB if required
- Follow emergency services instructions and evacuation advice where applicable
Trail conditions may change due to weather, maintenance works, bushfire risk, or environmental conditions. Riders should always check current trail alerts and closures before commencing their journey.
Bookings
Steve’s Road Stopover is an open-access self-reliant stopover and bookings are not required. Trail users are encouraged to notify someone of their travel itinerary before commencing their journey along the Warren Blackwood Stock Route.
